What you need to know about Scar Removal

by Martha Fitzharris

A scar is the pinkish or light-brown patch of skin that grows in place where a wound or sore has emerged. A scar is composed of fibrous tissue which replaces healthy dermis. Therefore, a scar is the skin's natural way of repairing itself.

Every skin injury or wound heals with a scar. Nonetheless, a scar's appearance may vary according to the extent of the lesion, the type of wound, and the individual's healing process.

Definite scar removal is difficult because scar tissue is not similar to the tissue that it has replaced and is usually of inferior quality. Scars have no hair and are more vulnerable to UV radiation.

Scar formation factors

There are several factors that influence the severity of a scar. Here are a few:

1) Wound size and depth.

2) What area of the body the wound has affected.

3) How much blood supply goes to the area affected.

4) Age of the person.

5) Type of skin.

Once a scar has formed it is permanent. Nevertheless, a scar's visibility can be lessened with the use of natural scar therapy or surgical procedures.

Types of Scar Treatment

*Treatment Keloid Scars: Keloid scars are itchy clusters of scar tissue that extend the edges of a wound or incision. They appear when the body continually produces collagen even after the wound has healed. They are more common in dark-skinned people and are treated by injecting a steroid medication directly into the scar tissue.

*Hypertrophic scars treatment: Unlike keloid scars, this type of scar maintains itself within the boundaries of the wound. Most hypertrophic scars show improvement over time. This type of scar is usually treated with steroid application or, at times, surgical intervention.

*Treatment acne scars: Acne scars can be either depressed or raised. Depressed acne scars develop as a result of loss of skin tissue at the site of injury while those that develop keloids will usually develop raised acne scars. Most acne scars patients will readily use home remedies to treat their acne scars, however, there are more effective means of treatment - topical and surgical procedures.

*Silicone scar therapy: Silicone scar therapy is a medical procedure created to improve the appearance of scars. It is used primarily by plastic surgeons to treat post-op scars.

*Natural scar therapy: Natural scar therapy involves the application of products that are created with all-natural ingredients. Most of these products are created using emu oil, rosehip oil, or snail serum. These natural ingredients have been used to treat scars in post-operatory patients and burn patients.

Any scar treatment procedure that you choose will depend on a mix of factors. Whether the scar healing treatment is natural scar therapy or surgical will always be determined by the type of scar and your personal and financial needs.
